Department Fundamentals: One of the key design criteria for SABIC’s new organization is to move away from being a company driven by advantaged feed stocks to one with advantaged capabilities. SABIC is therefore putting increased emphasis on innovation as a way to improve both top line growth and bottom line growth. There is a key role for Technology & Innovation to drive innovation in all parts of its business. Innovation has to become part of the culture of SABIC. Successful change management requires early successes. Within Technology & Innovation new innovation capabilities have been created and still need to be created in order to deliver on SABIC’s innovation mission. Incubation & Venturing capabilities are instrumental to foster breakthrough innovation complementary to the incremental innovation/continuous improvement in the SBU’s, and to enable new business growth whilst ensuring competitive differentiation/sustained advantage. The Senior Investment Manager job resides in SABIC Ventures within Technology & Innovation (T&I). The department has been set up to develop long term technology options for new business at SABIC (current SBUs and new SBUs). To this end an Innovation Fund (IF) has been raised by the EXCOM intended to fund internal seeds (‘incubation’) and external start-ups, as well as to realize technology options (licenses and acquisitions). The Challenge Responsible for getting access to the best possible venturing deals in the strategic clean tech areas of interest. Responsible for investing Innovation Fund money in external start-ups and seed deals. Responsible for developing and the execution of adequate exit strategies for internal ventures. Responsible for the development of a sound venturing portfolio balancing risks and potential value over the several corporate themes and SBU adjacencies, creating technology clusters and enhancing the project pipeline. Responsible for developing and continuously improving sound venturing practices at SABIC based on insights and expertise. Responsible for setting up deal flow metrics and KPI’s and delivering on them. Responsible for on-the-job training of internal Venturing and Incubation staff. Responsible for developing of an internal network of experts who will participate in due diligences and stakeholders to sponsor deals. Responsible for developing an external network relevant for incubation & venturing (‘Ecosystem’), with companies, venture capitalists and consultants. Responsible for developing and reinforcing the SABIC Ventures’ brand and SABIC’s reputation as an investor e.g. by reaching out to internal and external audiences e.g. by giving presentations. Contribute to the identification of new technology opportunities (‘hot spots’). Contributing to providing a higher profile to venturing in the Middle East. Contributing to building a strong interface with (the scouts of) the External Network & Venturing department which is focusing mainly on academic contacts. Your Profile MsC in Chemical Engineering, PhD preferred Strong technology, marketing, commercial and financial affinity and know how Legal know how (legal due diligence, term sheets and closing documents) Fluent in English Minimum 10 years experience in venturing, either as a Venture Capitalist or a Corporate VC Broad experience in chemical industry (technologies used): min 10 years.
