Department Fundamentals: One of the key design criteria for SABIC’s new organization is to move away from being a company driven by advantaged feed stocks to one with advantaged capabilities. SABIC is therefore putting increased emphasis on innovation as a way to improve both top line growth and bottom line growth. There is a key role for Technology & Innovation to drive innovation in all parts of its business. Innovation has to become part of the culture of SABIC. Within Technology & Innovation new innovation capabilities have been created and still need to be created in order to deliver on SABIC’s innovation mission. Incubation & Venturing capabilities are instrumental to foster breakthrough innovation complementary to the incremental innovation/continuous improvement in the SBU’s, and to enable new business growth whilst ensuring competitive differentiation/sustained advantage. The Manager Corporate New Business Development (Manager NBD) job resides in SABIC Ventures within Technology & Innovation (T&I). The department has been set up to develop long term technology options for new business at SABIC (current SBUs and new SBUs). To this end an Innovation Fund (IF) has been raised by the EXCOM intended to fund internal seeds (‘incubation’) and external start-ups, as well as to realize technology options (licenses and acquisitions). The Challenge Responsible for developing new internal ventures in SABIC. Responsible for managing internal venturing staff. Responsible for developing and implementing NBD strategies based on SABIC’s Corporate themes. Responsible for developing and continuously improving sound internal venturing practices and processes at SABIC based on insights and expertise. Responsible for developing and executing of adequate exit strategies for internal ventures. Responsible for the development of a sound internal venturing portfolio balancing risks and potential value over the several corporate themes, creating technology clusters and enhancing the project pipeline. Responsible for acquiring licenses or realizing other technology options to reinforce internal ventures (where applicable). Responsible for setting up internal venturing metrics and KPI’s and delivering on them. Responsible for developing of an internal network of experts who will participate in New Business Development and stakeholders to sponsor internal ventures. Responsible for developing an external network relevant for incubation a.o. with universities, (start-up) companies and consultants. Responsible for developing and reinforcing SABIC Ventures’ brand e.g. by reaching out to internal and external audiences and by giving presentations. Contributing to SABIC’s internal bottom-up innovation idea contest ‘Market Your IDEA’ and ascertaining continuity of ideas and teams to be incubated in the Corporate Incubator. Contributing to the development of Intelligence around SABIC’s corporate themes and sharing this with other internal departments.
